Justin Hornburg, FSA, MAAA, FCA
Prior to joining ISC, Justin held the role of Vice-President and Actuary at MetLife and American Benefits Consulting, an Alliant Insurance Services Company. In those roles he was responsible for a wide range of group ancillary product pricing, underwriting and reserving functions. Early in his career at MetLife, he worked in individual life insurance pricing. The following are a few examples of Justin's experience:
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT & PRICING
- Priced and help develop a short-term disability and paid family leave product for a fin-tech startup
- Worked and negotiated with numerous group insurance carriers as head of underwriting/financial team for a brokerage firm
- Plan change cost analyses for group life, disability, and dental plans
- Lead actuary on two very large group insurance sales, one for group life insurance for a large North American auto manufacturer, one for group dental insurance for the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program
- Developed a new voluntary permanent (whole) life product
- Lead pricing actuary for a sale of the voluntary permanent life product to a large southwestern US state
RESERVING
- Calculated IBNR reserves for group short-term disability and health plans for customers of a brokerage firm
- Signing actuary for an OPEB valuation of post-retirement life insurance liabilities under FAS 106 for a large North American auto manufacturer
CAPTIVES
- Provided group life insurance actuarial reserve opinions for two Vermont-domiciled captives
- Interfaced with captive insurance companies reinsuring group insurance risks of the customers of a brokerage firm
