Allan's 45 years of actuarial experience include employment with both insurance companies and consulting firms, as well as working as an independent consultant. Areas of concentration include the following:
Financial Reporting
- Analysis of statutory and GAAP financial statements, including audit support
- International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
Regulatory Support
- Review of life insurance and annuity policy form filings for state insurance departments
- Actuarial support to Risk-focused Examinations
Peer Review
- Review for compliance with applicable actuarial standards of conduct, practice, & qualification
- Assisting a life insurance company/consulting firm in establishing a process to ensure compliance with such standards
Federal Income Tax
- Life insurance company taxation
- Taxation of life and annuity products
In a career focused on life insurance and annuities, particularly financial reporting, Allan has been an active volunteer with both the Society of Actuaries, where he has been a frequent speaker on professionalism topics, and the American Academy of Actuaries, serving on the Actuarial Standards Board Life Committee, including a task force on Principle-Based Reserves. He chaired the Committee on Professional Responsibility and served as the Academy's Vice president for Professionalism in 2007. Allan is currently a member of the Actuarial Board for Counseling and Discipline.
